I think mostly its just a functionality and comfort thing for military purposes. Less likely to get ruined than steel. The Watchdives Nylon Watch Band on Amazon is my favourite of all my NATOs. It's a really nice, silky, seatbelt nylon, with sturdy hardware. Only $10 off Amazon. For the Duro, 22mm is the best fit.

Casio says the band width is 20mm but the band looks like it's cut out for the lugs which may be smaller.
